Tree Anchoring

Tree anchoring is an essential part of establishing and protecting new or relocated trees in landscaping, horticultural, and agricultural projects. Whether used in parks, urban environments, roof gardens, or rural planting schemes, the correct anchoring solution ensures stability and healthy growth.

Traditional staking can often damage root systems, restrict natural movement, and detract from the finished landscape appearance. Our tree anchoring systems from Anchor Systems (International) Ltd provide a discreet, durable, and easy-to-install solution for securing trees of all sizes—from small saplings to large, semi-mature specimens—above or below ground.

Our systems offer a cost-effective, long-term method of tree stabilisation that reduces maintenance, enhances aesthetics, and provides confidence in all soil and weather conditions.

Why Use Vulcan Earth Anchors?

Traditional tree supports such as timber stakes or posts can be visually intrusive, time-consuming to install, and may cause root or bark damage. They also deteriorate quickly and require replacement or maintenance over time.

The Tree Anchoring System overcomes these challenges through a modern, engineered approach:

  • Discreet installation – all components sit below or close to ground level for a clean, natural appearance.

  • Fast and easy to install – suitable for both hand-held and machine-driven methods, reducing labour time.

  • Long-lasting and robust – made from high-grade steel with an expected lifespan of up to 120 years.

  • Higher load capacity – Vulcan Earth Anchors feature a large surface area to achieve secure holding power, even in poor ground.

  • Flexible and versatile – kits available for trees from under 2m to over 12m in height.

  • No concrete or staking required – environmentally friendly and immediately load-bearing.

  • Made in Britain – ensuring quality, reliability, and fast lead times.

How Our Products Are Used for This Application

Our Tree Anchoring Systems use a combination of mechanical ground anchors and tensioning systems to secure the rootball or trunk of a tree in position. Once driven into the ground, the anchors are load-locked using tensioners, providing instant resistance to wind and movement.

Depending on the site and tree type, systems can be installed:

  • Underground (Rootball Fixing Kits) – ideal for landscaped areas where aesthetics and safety are key.

  • Above-ground (Guying Kits) – used where additional bracing is needed, such as in exposed or high-wind environments.

  • Non-displaceable or obstructed ground (Dead Man or Drop-Man Kits) – designed for urban or restricted sites where underground services prevent anchor driving.

  • Containerised applications – where trees are planted in planters or roof gardens using secure eye-bolt fixing kits.

All systems can be installed manually using drive rods, maul hammers, or petrol post drivers. We also provide pre-works training, on-site supervision, and installation guides to ensure correct application and compliance with Health & Safety standards.

Rootball Fixing Kits (1).png (1)

Rootball Fixing Kit

The Rootball Fixing Kit provides a secure, underground anchoring solution for newly planted rootballed trees, removing the need for unsightly above-ground supports. Designed to give trees the best possible start, the system delivers long-term stability while maintaining a clean, aesthetically pleasing finish.

Available with either high tensile wire or webbing strap options, the kits ensure precise positioning and controlled tensioning during installation. Integrated rootball protection spreads the load evenly, preventing damage to the root structure while promoting healthy establishment.

Suitable for a wide range of tree sizes, from light standards to semi-mature specimens, the Rootball Fixing Kit offers a simple, reliable and professional solution for landscaping and planting projects.

Dead Man Kits.png

Dead Man Kits

Dead Man Kits are designed for situations where traditional driven anchors cannot be used, such as urban environments with buried utilities or non-displaceable ground conditions.

Using either high tensile wire or webbing straps, the system secures the tree by connecting to weighted objects such as sleepers or kerbstones beneath the surface. This method provides effective load distribution and stability while protecting the rootball from damage.

Simple to install and widely used across rail, utilities and landscaping projects, Dead Man Kits offer a practical and proven alternative where ground penetration is not possible.

DropMan Kit.png

Drop Man Kits

The Drop Man Kit is an innovative evolution of the traditional deadman system, designed to simplify installation and reduce the need for additional materials.

Instead of relying on external weights such as kerbstones or sleepers, the system uses purpose-designed Drop Man plates to provide the necessary resistance and load distribution. This all-in-one solution improves efficiency on site while maintaining excellent tree stability.

Available with wire or strap configurations, the Drop Man Kit offers a faster, more cost-effective and streamlined approach to securing trees in challenging ground conditions.

Containerised Rootball Kit.png

Containerised Rootball Kits

The Containerised Rootball Kit is specifically developed for securing trees within planters and containers, making it ideal for roof gardens, urban spaces and hard landscaping schemes.

Replacing traditional ground anchors, the system uses expanding eye bolts fixed into the structure of the container to provide a discreet yet highly effective anchoring solution. This allows trees to be securely installed above ground without compromising design or aesthetics.

Offering flexibility, security and ease of installation, the Containerised Rootball Kit is the preferred choice for modern planting environments where traditional anchoring methods are not suitable.

Overhead Guying Kits.png

Overhead Guying Kits

Overhead Guying Systems are designed to support newly planted trees in exposed or high-wind environments where additional stabilisation is required.

Using high tensile guy wires connected to Vulcan Earth Anchors, the system provides above-ground support to prevent movement, leaning or displacement during establishment. Adjustable tensioning ensures the tree remains securely positioned while allowing natural movement for healthy growth.

Quick to install and adaptable to a variety of ground conditions, overhead guying offers a reliable solution for protecting trees in more demanding environments.

FAQs

01

What makes Vulcan Tree Anchoring Systems different from traditional staking?

Our systems are entirely or mostly hidden, avoiding visual clutter while providing superior stability and root protection. They also require no concrete or timber posts, reducing environmental impact and long-term maintenance.

02

Can the systems be used in areas with underground services?

Yes. Our Dead Man and Drop-Man Kits are specifically designed for locations where anchors cannot be driven, such as near utilities or in compacted ground.

03

Are these systems reusable or adjustable after installation?

The ratchet tensioners allow for easy adjustment after planting to ensure correct tension. Components can also be removed and reused for temporary installations if required.
