The Lord-Lieutenant Visits Anchor Systems
When we won the King's Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2026, we knew the recognition wouldn't stop with the announcement. On Tuesday 25 August, that award was marked in person, when the Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey visited Anchor Systems — joined by the Deputy Lord-Lieutenant and three of the Lord-Lieutenant's cadets, representing the Sea Cadets, the Explorer Scouts and the Air Training Corps.
The visit began at 11am with a tour of our offices, giving the group a first-hand look at the people and the process behind the Anchor Post and Anchor Screw systems — from where it all started, working with Transport for London, through to how the system is being installed on live projects like Cockfosters today.
Seeing The System First-Hand
It was watching the system demonstrated that seemed to leave the biggest impression. Having not worked closely with the rail industry before, the Lord-Lieutenant was struck by how much thought goes into something most people never see:
“Never really thought too much about the industry or how it works, but seeing it all here makes so much sense — and it's great to see how much care and detail goes into the products and the sustainable impacts too.” — The Lord-Lieutenant
There was genuine interest, too, in the wider work of the business beyond rail — including our Vulcan Earth Anchor products, and our tree anchoring solutions in particular, which struck a personal note: the Lord-Lieutenant has land of his own and trees he's hoping to plant.
A Team Worth Recognising
For a team that spends most of its time focused on the engineering, it meant a great deal to have that work — and the people behind it — recognised in person. What stood out just as much as the technology, though, was the team itself:
“You can really tell when a company is a nice place to work, as you can see it on the staff — you can see it on everyone here that they enjoy their job.” — The Lord-Lieutenant
By the end of the visit, it was clear the day had left as much of an impression on our guests as it had on us:
“I greatly enjoyed meeting so many of you and learning about what you do. In fact, I knew today was going to be a nice visit when I arrived at the front gate and the security already knew who I was and where I was going. I think that says a lot about the company you are — you have such a warm and wonderful family feel and atmosphere to it.” — The Lord-Lieutenant
Looking Ahead
We were proud to welcome the Lord-Lieutenant, the Deputy Lord-Lieutenant and the cadets to Anchor Systems, and grateful for the time and interest they gave to properly understand what we do. It was a fitting, personal way to mark a national recognition — and a reminder of why this team does the work it does.
